ENERGY STAR for New Homes
ENERGY STAR for New Homes is the EPA’s energy efficiency certification pathway for single-family homes and multifamily apartments three-stories and lower (can be extended up to five-stories under certain criteria). ENERGY STAR v3.0 utilizes multiple checklists completed by the builder and 3rd party verifier to measure the effectiveness of the Thermal Envelope, Water Management systems and HVAC Systems and demonstrate the energy efficiency of the completed building.
ENERGY STAR Multifamily High-Rise
The ENERGY STAR Multifamily High-rise protocol is designed for multifamily building five-stories and taller (with exceptions). Relying on ASHRAE 90.1 energy modeling, building system commissioning, and 3rd party on-site verification, this program also strives to measure the effectiveness of the chosen energy efficiency strategies through a process more aligned to Commercial building practices.
ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager
Portfolio Manager is ENERGY STAR’s nationwide benchmarking tool for tracking and monitoring energy and water use in commercial buildings. It is an interactive management tool that tracks consumption, stores the information and data online, while pitting each building’s performance (minimum 12 mos data required) against other buildings of the same building type and usage. As such, it is a valuable tool for tracking, improvement, and management. The system is set on a scale from 1-100, with 75 and lower allowing possible achievement of the ENERGY STAR certification.
